Mod «Peek a View» for Project Zomboid

0
120

Peek a View addresses a visual limitation in vanilla Project Zomboid where walls and roofs only fade out within approximately 5 tiles of the character. This often results in zombies leaning against walls or hiding behind fences remaining invisible to the player, even when the character has a direct line of sight. This mod extends the cutaway range, ensuring that what is displayed on the screen closely matches what the character can actually see.

Features:

  • Extends the cutaway range from the vanilla ~5 tiles up to 20 tiles (configurable).
  • Automatically disables the effect above a configurable driving speed to maintain FPS on lower-end hardware.
  • Includes an optional mode that activates only when using the nimble stance.
  • Maintains vanilla fade mechanics without enabling see-through walls or bypassing line-of-sight rules; it simply triggers the fade from a greater distance.
  • Fixes a Build 42 render bug where player-built structures cause nearby vanilla walls to disappear.

Controls and Settings:

All options are located under OptionsModsPeek a View. Press F8 to toggle the mod on or off (indicated by a green or red halo). This keybind can be changed under [PeekAView] in OptionsKeybind.

Requirements:

  • Build 42.13 or later.
  • ZombieBuddy mod is required.

Notes:

  • This mod alters the intended visual style of the game. Buildings in dense city blocks may fade in and out more rapidly during movement.
  • There is a minor performance cost per frame, which is most noticeable while driving. The speed-based auto-disable feature mitigates this. Reducing the range setting can also help in dense areas.
  • Compatible with singleplayer and multiplayer (client-side rendering only; no server changes required).
  • Localized in 12 languages: EN, DE, FR, ES, RU, PL, PT-BR, IT, TR, CN, KO, JP.
  • It is recommended to back up save files before installing any mod.
